When pain lasts longer than three months—and serious medical conditions of infection, fracture, cancer, or autoimmune disease have been ruled out by your medical team —it usually means your nervous system has become hypersensitised. Your brain has become stuck in a form of “high alert”. It is misguidedly still trying to protect you, creating pain signals, even though your body is no longer in danger.

This doesn’t mean you’re broken—your system has learned to respond this way. And certain movements, times of day, emotions, places or even your thoughts can trigger this learned response. Thankfully, you can UNLEARN IT TOO!

 

Even if you've been told that your scans show arthritis, disc problems or other physical changes, those changes are often equivalent to wrinkles or grey hair. They’re the body’s natural “kisses of time" - and in most cases they are not the true cause of your ongoing pain.
